Warning Alert to all Countries and
Governments and People living on this Earth.

Living habits, Food habits and breeding habits i.e., Habit and Habitat of any species in the nature will change according to the availability of food and environment or circumstances. This is very common in the Nature of this world. This is the main cause or reason in living style of the evolution.

If these locusts change its food habits, I mean to say… according to thier increasing capacity of population and availability of the food material (Now they are in gregarious phase)… If we are not able to control, they may become Omnivorous and Carnivorous too. It can be happened in the Nature in future. Then what is the fate of the human beings in this world ? Then these locust swarms will kill and feed on all kinds of plants, animals including the Humans. So, we must be very careful in taking every possible effective step in controlling the Locust Swarms immediately.

The desert locust (Schistocerca gregaria) is a notorious species. Found in Africa, the Middle East, and Asia, this species inhabits an area of about six million square miles, Or 30 countries, during a quiet period. During a plague, when large swarms descend upon a region, however, these locusts can spread out across some 60 countries and cover a fifth of Earth’s land surface. Desert locust plagues threaten the economic livelihood of a tenth of humans.

A desert locust swarm can be 460 square miles in size. They will be in between 40 and 80 Million locusts in less than half a square mile. Each locust can eat each day equal to its body weight. So a swarm of such size would eat 423 million pounds of plants every day. To put it into context, a swarm the size of Paris can eat the same amount of food in one day as half the population of France.

No taxonomic distinction is made between locust and grasshopper species, the basis for the definition is whether a species forms swarms under intermittently suitable conditions.

A swarm of locust species have attacked many gardens like banana, rubber and almost all other crops and in parts of plantation in India and also in many other countries. Every year governments provides thousands of millions to control these swarms but they are not successful.

Locusts are a collection of certain species of short-horned grasshoppers in the family Acrididae that have a swarming phase. These insects are usually solitary, but under certain circumstances they become more abundant and change their behavior and habits, becoming gregarious.

India faces worst locust crisis since 3 decades. Swarms of Millions of Locusts Devastate Crops in India Amid Pandemic-Created Economic Crisis.Locusts aren’t dangerous as long as they are individual hoppers/moths or small isolated groups of insects, in what is called the “solitary phase”. It is when their population grows to large numbers – the resultant crowding induces behavioral changes and transformation from the “solitary” to “gregarious” phase – that they start forming Swarms. A single swarm contains up to 40-80 million adults in one square km and these can travel up to 150 km in one day.

The above large-scale breeding and swarm formation, however, takes place only when conditions turn very favorable in their natural habitat, i.e. desert and semi-arid regions. These areas should get rains that will produce enough green vegetation to enable both egg laying and hopper development. The hopper bands and immature adult groups resulting from this large-scale breeding – itself a product of unusually heavy rains. The danger would be when the swarms that have already or are about to come will start Breeding. A single gregarious female locust can lay 60-80 eggs three times during its average life cycle of 90 days.

After creating a menace in other countries and in some Northern states in the country, swarms of locust species have now entered in east, west and central and south India. They are attacking almost all crops in the country.

locusts has been haunting farmers in parts of northern India for weeks. There are many species of crop-destroying insects from the grasshopper family are performing the most vicious attacks since three centuries. Even there are recorded events of this Locusts swarm in Mahabharath period. . They have the potential to put in jeopardy India’s food security, experts say.

Study of literature shows how pervasive plagues of locusts were over the course of history. The insects arrived unexpectedly, often after a change of wind direction or weather, and the consequences were devastating.

Human epidemics is following locust plagues which is associated with the stench from the putrefying corpses. The linking of human disease outbreaks to locust plagues was widespread. A pestilence in the northwestern provinces of China in 311 AD that killed 98% of the population locally was blamed on locusts, and may have been caused by an increase in numbers of rats (and their fleas) that devoured the locust carcasses.

Locusts are edible insects. Several cultures throughout the world consume insects, and locusts are considered a delicacy and eaten in many African, Middle Eastern, and Asian countries. They have been used as food throughout history.

They can be cooked in many ways, but are often fried, smoked, or dried. The Bible Records that John the Baptist ate locusts and wild honey. Attempts have been made to explain the locusts as some ascetic vegetarian food such as carob beans, but the plain meaning of akrides is the insects.

In Islamic jurisprudence, eating locusts is considered Halal. The Islamic prophet, Muhammad, was reported to have eaten locusts during a military raid with his companions.

Locusts are eaten in the Arabian Peninsula, including Saudi Arabia, where consumption of locusts spiked around Ramadan especially in the Al-Qassim Region in 2014, since many Saudis believe they are healthy to eat. The Saudi Ministry of Health warned that pesticides they used against the locusts made them unsafe. Yemen is also consume locusts, and expressed discontent over governmental plans to use pesticides to control them. 19th century European travelers observed Arabs in Arabia, Egypt, and Morocco selling, cooking, and eating locusts. They reported that in Egypt and Palestine locusts were consumed. They reported that in Palestine, around the River Jordan, in Egypt, in Arabia, and in Morocco that Arabs ate locusts, while Syrian peasants did not eat locusts.

In the Haouran region, Fellahs who were in poverty and suffered from famine ate locusts after removing the guts and head, while locusts were swallowed wholesale by Bedouins. Syrians, Copts, Greeks, Armenians, and other Christians and Arabs themselves reported that in Arabia locusts were eaten frequently and one Arab described to a European traveler the different types of locusts which were favored as food by Arabs.

Locusts yield about five times more edible protein per unit of fodder than cattle, and produce lower levels of greenhouse gases in the process. The feed conversion rate of Orthopterans is 1.7 kg/kg. The protein content in fresh weight is between 13–28 g/100g for adult locust, 14–18 g/100g for larvae, the calculated protein efficiency ratio is low, with 1.69 for locust protein compared to 2.5 for standard casein. A serving of 100 g of desert locust provides 11.5 g of fat, 53.5% of which is unsaturated, and 286 mg of cholesterol. Among the fatty acids, palmitoleic, oleic and linolenic acids were found to be the most abundant. Varying amounts of potassium, sodium, phosphorus, calcium, magnesium, iron, and zinc were present.

Swarming behavior is a response to overcrowding. Increased tactile stimulation of the hind legs causes an increase in levels of serotonin. This causes the locust to change color, eat much more, and breed much more easily. The transformation of the locust to the swarming form is induced by several contacts per minute over a four-hour period. A large swarm can consist of billions of locusts spread out over an area of thousands of square kilometers, with a population of up to 80 million per square kilometer (200 million per square mile). When desert locusts meet, their nervous systems release serotonin, which causes them to become mutually attracted, a prerequisite for swarming.

One of the greatest differences between the solitary and gregarious phases is behavioral. The gregaria nymphs are attracted to each other, this being seen as early as the second instars. They soon form bands of many thousands of individuals. These groups behave like cohesive units and move across the landscape, mostly downhill, but making their way around barriers and merging with other bands. The attraction between the insects seems to be largely visual, but also involves olfactory cues, and the band seem to navigate using the sun. They pause to feed at intervals before resuming their march, and may cover tens of kilometers over a few weeks.

The mutual attraction between individual insects continues into adulthood, and they continue to act as a cohesive group. Individuals that get detached from a swarm fly back into the mass. Others that get left behind after feeding, take off to rejoin the Swarm when it passes overhead. When individuals at the front of the swarm settle to feed, others fly past overhead and settle in their turn, the whole swarm acting like a rolling unit with an ever-changing leading edge. The locusts spend much time on the ground feeding and resting, moving on when the vegetation is exhausted. They may then fly a considerable distance before settling in a location where transitory rainfall has caused a green flush of new growth.

Our BVP Simple kind of Planning is to trap maximum Locusts in the country. And for the remaining locusts other available methods can be used. 1st Step: Dig pits according to your convenient in your Agricultural lands or gardens or open lands or near your colonies or houses and in agglomeration lands and in the villages.

Locust control-7W

3rd Step: Fix bamboo or any kind of poles and plastic or polythene or cloth as the sheet, (according to the availability and measurements) to the bamboo sticks or poles. Take proper precaution to withstand the air winds. Uncover the pit with a small gap. Through this gap, locusts or any other insects will inter into the pits. Attach a small and similar sheet at the bottom in an acute angle so that it directs all locusts or insects to enter into the constructed pit through the small opening provided. You can construct the pits with any length, breadth and depth which ia according to your convenient for trapping them. This is the cheapest type of locust swarm trapping method. Even a small farmer or poor man can afford with the local available material. Kindly note that when we make sound or disturb them they will go to the next fields but they can’t be controlled. This BVP technique will capture majority of the swarm and the balance can be controlled with pesticides or using small nets according to the convenient or through any other methods.

We can install thousands of such pits every where in the agricultural fields or in open lands accordingly. This is the total country problem or even it is just like pandemic disease in the world for agriculture. Hence all should take part in this controlling method whether they may be farmers or not. The millions or trillions of locusts caught can be consumed by the humans or by the birds/poultry/fishery and we can also consume as the manure for the agricultural fields accordingly.

Kindly Note : These traps can be made on the both sides in opposite directions, so that the efficiency of the traps will be doubled.
